Telepractice is Using a Web-based Platform
to Access Telatherapy.

No running around town.
No finding a babysitter.
No more juggling acts.

What is Teletherapy?

Teletherapy, is a growing service delivery model that allows healthcare professionals to provide services to their clients via the computer. With a secure internet connection, you or a family member can receive speech and language therapy sessions in a variety of locations including schools, clinics, offices, hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, or even your own home. It is an effective approach that allows for services to be delivered in remote areas to clients who may have gone without. It is also a very convenient way to ensure that appointments are kept and treatment plans are carried out. There is no need to commute to your speech therapy sessions, just log in to your computer at your scheduled time and be connected directly with a highly qualified, licensed, trained, ASHA certified speech-language pathologist.

Does teletherapy work as well as on-site therapy?

Yes. Teletherapy has been used to evaluate and treat clients of all ages. According to the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA), research suggests that there are few differences between teletherapy and in-person services. Most clients who receive teletherapy report that they are very satisfied.

In our experience, we have seen consistent progress in our clients in a shorter amount of time than when we worked in traditional settings. The benefit of serving clients 1:1 or 2:1 has proven to be an effective approach as it allows for the ability to capitalize on each individual’s strengths while directly addressing their weaknesses. The technology has been very motivating and it keeps clients engaged and eager to participate. I am able to customize my materials to coincide with the interests of my clients while focusing on their goals.

Telepractice for Speech and Hearing Services

Does insurance cover tele-therapy?

Yes. Your insurance should cover a teletherapy session in the same way it would cover an on-site therapy session.

What are the benefits of teletherapy?

Our Teletherapy offers the following benefits:

Accessibility for:
- Patients living in remote areas
- Families with transportation limitations
- Parents with busy or hectic schedules
- Families who prefer a convenient alternative to traditional on-site therapy
- Improved communication and transparency between the SLP and parents
- Flexible, timely therapy sessions with reduced wait times

Is teletherapy right for everyone?

Teletherapy is not right for every child. Unlike on-site interactions, the SLP is not able to use tactile cues or physical redirection without the assistance of a parent/caregiver. Factors that may impact a child’s ability to benefit from tele-therapy include:

Hearing and visual ability
Ability to maintain attention
Willingness of family/caregiver to participate in sessions
Availability of technology

What are the technical requirements?

You will need an internet connection in order to participate in a teletherapy session, as well as:

Computer, tablet, or smartphone; computers are recommended.
Internal/external web camera
Internal/external microphone and speakers
Headphones are recommended.
Latest version of your web browser
Adequate internet connection speed; 3 Mbps connection speed is recommended.

Are teletherapy sessions secure?

Yes. Our Speech Therapy at Home uses TheraPlatform for all our sessions. TheraPlatform complies with all federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations. This platform also conducts annual risk assessment to ensure that they continue to meet HIPAA standards, and protected patient information remains secure.

"For most of my childhood and adult life I fought with a stuttering problem, but Speech Therapy at Home has changed all that. I will be forever grateful! "
"I struggled with poor articulation for many years, people would tell me they could not understand me, It restricted my growth at work as I did not want to step up and do and public presentations. I recently  got a raise, and I am fully confident to speak anytime in front of anyone.

Meet Angela,
Founder, CEO

I have a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree from Acadia University and a Master’s of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Dalhousie University. I have been an American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) Certified Speech Language Pathologist for over 19 years. I started my SLP career with children then had the pleasure of working with adults in a variety of settings (ALF, SNF, Home Health) and loved this population too. With children, I have worked in the school setting, clinics, daycares and homes. In the US, I am licensed in Florida, California, and I am a member of Speech-Language & Audiology Canada (SAC). I currently work as a teletherapist serving children aged 1 to Adults and I LOVE it!

In addition to my teletherapy practice, I am the owner of Pediatric Therapy Group Inc., which is a private practice that provides in person therapy in many different settings.

I am the mother of two amazing teenage girls and I enjoy traveling, horseback riding and dancing. I am even certified to provide Speech Therapy on horses, called Hippotherapy. I’ve been married for 18 years and reside in South Florida with my family.
